Individualised academic support for children with ASD – Year 1 and Year 2
An educational support programme designed for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) who are in Year 1 or Year 2 in Geneva.
The aim is not simply to ‘do homework’, but to provide the child with a structured, predictable learning environment tailored to their way of understanding and learning.
The support may focus on:
understanding and completing schoolwork;
acquiring and consolidating fundamental learning;
recognising letters, numbers, shapes and basic concepts;
developing functional language related to schoolwork;
understanding of instructions;
attention and organisation whilst carrying out tasks;
development of independence;
preparation and revision of material covered at school;
strategies to facilitate the transition between different activities;
confidence and assurance in learning.
Each support session is tailored to the child’s profile, level of development and needs. Visual strategies, hands-on activities, functional repetition and a structured approach are used, whilst respecting the child’s individual pace.
